Click here to add text.This beautiful inn is located near the woods next to Green Mountain National Forest. It is owned by John and Rachel Pilcher with their son, Lewis. It has 9 well appointed and luxurious rooms that are newly renovated and very comfortable. Among the rooms it has two suites that both have private fireplaces. One of them, the Joseph Courtemanche Suite, has vaulted reclaimed natural barn wood on the ceilings with windows on three sides. The other, the Molly Stark Suite, has an oversized Jacuzzi bathtub underneath a ceiling window that allows soakers to look out at the stars at night. The property is on 3.5 acres and is made up of the Main House and the Carriage House buildings. The Main House has 5 rooms and a full 52 seat restaurant as well as a fully stocked and very comfortable tavern. All of our food is made from scratch including our pastas and breads (we occasionally buy pies from the nearby Nutmeg Inn, however, as they have a fantastic bakery). Our meats come from VT farms where we almost exclusively buy our foods direct while our produce comes to us from farmers markets via Blue Mountain Produce, located here in Wilmington VT. The Red Shutter believes in supporting our local markets and farms and in creating an environmentally sustainable business based on the concept of “SLOCAL” cooking. In contrasts to fast food, our food is “slow” food in that it is grown from the ground naturally and raised property without aids from hormones or antibiotics. The animals we buy are treated properly and harvested in a humane and clean manner. The tavern is a small cozy bar in a big open great room with a large fireplace that we keep stuffed with wood. The inn is a perfect weekend getaway for skiers and for snowboarders as well as for those looking to tour the VAST snowmobile trails or go horseback riding. There is so much to do in the town, including just visit the town! Great stores like Bartellby’s Books and t he 1836 Country Store where Al still makes his fudge by hand and without preservatives! We are located right next to a rushing river on Route 9 in between Bennington and Brattleboro and 1/3 of a mile from where Route 9 meets Route 100. Come see us and give us a try!

The Deerfield

The Deerfield is one of our favorite rooms. It is located at the top of the stairs in the Main House adjacent to no other rooms, offering guests peace and quiet. Windows on two sides face the river and the stream getting plentiful sunlight.

The room includes a queen sized Sleep-2-Live (Kingsdown) mattress in a four post wood bed (newly replaced Nov-09), cable television, and an over-sized (long) jacuzzi bathtub and shower. The linens are high thread count and the bedding is 650 fill goose down duvet with four full sized full feather pillows. Wireless internet is included in the rate and is well received in the Deerfield.
