Mount Snow invested heavily in snowmaking technology in the Summer of 2007, purchasing 101 energy-efficient Polecat fan guns from SMI Snowmakers, Inc. This state-of-the-art snowmaking equipment uses less compressed air than traditional air/water guns, meaning it requires significantly less energy to produce snow. Fan guns are ideal for producing a vast quantity of snow, even in milder temperature ranges. This means our skiers and snowboarders can expect:

- Earlier opening and closing dates with more terrain
- Fast recovery from extreme temperature fluctuations
- Homemade “powder days” when conditions are ideal

Fan guns project water high into the air. The “hang-time” allows water to crystallize and fall softly to the ground as dry, fluffy snow. The technology is most effective on wide, cruiser trails, such as our Snowdance and Standard trails on the Main Face. We will still utilize our traditional air/water snowmaking technology on narrower trails.
